In order to achieve the aforementioned objectives, the following activities will be undertaken: 1. Raise funds using all lawful means in order to be able to undertake the required activities that follow. 2. Establish a Secretariat that will coordinate the GAASI activities within and outside Ireland. 3. Develop short, medium and long term plans of action that should be based on the GAASI objectives. 4. Forge partnerships with relevant inter-government, government and non government agencies as well as the private sector to participate in the promotion of sustainable development in Iraq, including the eradication of Poverty. 5. Undertake an instrumental and leading role in the formulation, implementation and promotion of a Global Initiative Towards a Sustainable Iraq (GITSI), that should be registered as a partnership with the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development in New York; 6. Mobilise in-kind resources to promote sector-specific capacity building activities for Iraqis; 7. Review and assess the on-going activities aimed at the formulation, development and implementation of a National Sustainable Development Strategy Framework (NSDSF) for Iraq, 8. Review and Assess current Iraqi sectoral policies and strategies in relation to the principles and indicators of sustainable development at the national and local levels; 9. Formulate and develop advisory notes on the structuring of a national and sectoral sustainable development strategies (SSDS) at the Iraqi national and local levels; 10. Review and assess the on-going international Poverty Alleviation programmes and actions for Iraq; 11. Formulate guidelines that could contribute to the furthering of poverty alleviation of the Iraqi population; 12. Review and assess available studies and actions addressing the issue of Environmentally Sound Technology (ESTs); 13. Formulate and develop guidelines that should contribute to the promotion of an EST Policy, Strategy and Plan for Iraq; 14. Review and assess the state of education, health, women, children, energy, agriculture, housing, and transport in Iraq using all available Iraqi government data and information as well as others; 15. Accordingly, formulate, promote an implement Pilot Schemes Packages (IPSP) for the Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Iraq in the fields of social reconciliation and integration; education; health; clean technologies in the fields of energy, agriculture, housing, and transport; applied research; capacity building; 16. Review and assess available best practices of Sustainable Community Funds (SuCoF); 17. Undertake a feasibility study to establish a pilot Sustainable Community Fund (SuCoF) for Iraq that should contribute to the sustainable reconstruction and development at the local level – town and village; If feasible, implement, evaluate and if needed replicate; 18. Review and assess on-going capacity-building activities in Iraq; 19. Formulate, implement, develop and maintain intensive sector-specific sustainable development capacity-building programmes for Iraqi professionals that should complement the on-going similar activities undertaken by public and private agencies in Iraq, as well as benefiting from other on-going programmes such as the United Nations Development Prpgramme’s “Capacity 2015”. 20. Coordinate with all relevant stakeholders to contribute to the promotion of a National Sustainable Development Strategy (NSDS) for Iraq. GAASI will strive with all relevant partners to promote this NSDS and accordingly create a conduit for investment in partnerships; disseminate information on, and adapt and replicate good practice and lessons-learned from successful partnerships to inspire donor support; 21. Where possible, and in coordination with the formal Iraqi Authorities, review and assess the state of the environment in selected parts of Iraq; 22. Accordingly, develop advisory notes that should contribute to the protection and restoration of the quality of the human and natural environment of Iraq; 23. Develop and implement meetings, courses, workshops, seminars, and conferences in relation to the importance and value of sustainable development to the future of a stable Iraq; 24. Participate in all relevant events leading to the promotion of GAASI’s objectives.
