| Welcome to the GITSI’s Portal. |
 The primary aim of this Portal is to introduce the Global Initiative Towards a Sustainable Iraq (GITSI) to the global community, particularly, the Middle East and North Africa Region. First and foremost, on behalf of the GITSI’s International Steering Committee, SDI Board, and National Coordination Committee, it is a great honour for us to have the United Nations Development Programme/Iraq as GITSI’s main Partner. GITSI is proud to have received an overwhelming support from public and private sectors organisations inside and outside Iraq, including Kurdistan Regional Government, Members of the Iraqi Parliament and representatives of NGOs, academia and private sector. This Partnership that evolved out of the Civil society, we believe, is the first of its kind that is registered with the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and working mainly for a Sustainable Iraq. The idea of establishing GITSI is important and timely. This Portal, thus, reflects the overall goal, objectives, activities, outcomes, programmes of GITSI; promotion of the empowerment of Iraqi people with sustainable knowledge and education. The Portal also reflects the unique challenge facing GITSI’s leadership and management in terms of resources and diversity, coupled with the extra ordinary conflict situation inside Iraq. We hope that the international community will receive this Portal with openness and support. GITSI is non political, non sectarian, non-religious and non ethnic-specific partnership. GITSI is open to all those who would like to see Iraq prosper in peace and tranquility among the civilized world we live in. Hopefully, the pertinent information the portal will provide will be of interest to those who are engaged in the activities of sustainable development issues. In order to ensure that GITSI’s Portal meets the diverse socio-economic, health and environmental needs and is up-to-date, your ideas and constructive comments are welcome. Finally, we hope that this Portal can serve as a means for continuous information-exchange along with an ongoing and long-lasting cooperation between and among all relevant stakeholders. In addition, we believe that this Portal should be a milestone for future collaboration and will contribute to making a difference to economy, environment and the lives of the current and future Iraqi generations.
